What to Expect at Your First Facial
Exactly what happens during a facial, from assessment to aftercare, so your first visit feels easy and familiar.

If you have never had a professional facial, it is natural to wonder what actually happens. The good news: it is a calm, comfortable experience, and there is nothing to feel nervous about. Here is what to expect from start to finish.
It starts with a conversation
Your facial begins with a brief skin assessment and a chat about your skin, your routine, any concerns, and what you would like to get out of the treatment. This is how we tailor the facial to you rather than giving everyone the same thing.
The treatment itself
A typical facial includes a thorough double cleanse, gentle exfoliation, and, where appropriate, professional extractions to clear congestion. From there, treatments vary: a nourishing mask, targeted serums, and often a relaxing face, neck, and decolletage massage. Most facials take between 40 and 90 minutes depending on which one you choose.
How it feels
Comfort is the priority throughout. Most steps are soothing and relaxing, many people drift off, and anything more active, like extractions, is done gently and only as needed. If anything feels uncomfortable, just say so and your therapist will adjust.
Afterwards
Your skin may look a little flushed immediately after, especially if you had extractions, and this usually settles within an hour or two. Your therapist will share simple aftercare, typically keeping it gentle, hydrated, and protected with SPF, and recommend when to come back.
How to prepare
There is very little you need to do. Come with clean skin if you can, avoid strong exfoliants or retinoids for a couple of days beforehand, and let us know about any recent treatments, medications, or sensitivities so we can plan safely.
Frequently asked questions
Should I wear makeup to my facial?+
You do not need to remove it beforehand, we cleanse thoroughly as part of the treatment, but arriving with clean skin is helpful. Avoid strong exfoliants or retinoids for a day or two before your appointment.
Will my skin look red afterwards?+
A little flushing is normal, especially after extractions, and usually settles within an hour or two. We will give you aftercare to keep your skin calm and protected.
How long does a facial take?+
Most of our facials take between 40 and 90 minutes depending on the treatment. Your first visit includes a short assessment at the start, so allow a little extra time.
